Platform engineer for Cloud Services

Nexcess provides specialty cloud solutions for organizations that need both performance and compliance. It serves businesses worldwide, from agencies scaling client sites to enterprises running mission-critical operations. Its Cloud Services provide data protection, security, and edge services, including SSL, email, EADN, and CDN/WAF, to keep customers’ applications safe and performant.

• Own Cloud Services platform features end to end, from specification through implementation, testing, deployment, monitoring, and ongoing production support
• Translate business and technical requirements into clear specifications, identify unknowns and dependencies, clarify ambiguity, and ensure solutions can be built and operated reliably
• Build and maintain cloud infrastructure and automation using Linux-based environments, configuration management tools, and infrastructure components for secure, highly available services
• Use AI-assisted engineering tools daily for implementation and review, and remain accountable for the final result’s quality, security, and operability
• Verify changes with tests and evidence, validate failure scenarios and happy paths, and demonstrate production readiness
• Review other engineers’ code and technical changes, identify design and operational risks, provide actionable feedback, and maintain engineering quality
• Mentor less experienced engineers and support them through design, implementation, and review
• Participate in the on-call rotation, respond to incidents, document findings and follow-up actions, and reduce operational toil through automation and improved tooling
• Improve legacy or complex infrastructure safely, without unnecessary rewrites, and leave systems better documented and instrumented
• Coordinate dependencies with other teams and resolve them before they become delivery blockers
• Align engineering work with business priorities, communicate when work is not a priority, and deliver commitments on agreed dates and at a quality that avoids incidents and customer escalations
• Stay close to production, run the AI harness daily, review code written by others, and keep technical judgment current
• Understand customer and business outcomes, clarify needs early, and raise delivery risks with evidence and advance notice

• 5+ Years of experience with cloud computing infrastructure and production environments
• 5+ Years of experience in Linux server administration
• 5+ Years of experience with configuration management and automation tools such as Ansible or Puppet
• Strong understanding of infrastructure reliability, availability, security, and production operations
• Experience building, maintaining, and supporting production systems, including ownership after deployment
• Experience participating in an on-call rotation and responding to production incidents
• Ability to work effectively in unfamiliar systems and troubleshoot across production environments
• Hands-on experience with AI-assisted engineering tools in day-to-day technical work
• Strong testing and validation habits, with a focus on proving changes work correctly before and after deployment
• Clear written communication skills and ability to work effectively in a remote, distributed team across multiple time zones
