Software Engineer, Data & AI | Digital Pills

- Way of working: hybrid, office in Turin (city centre), around 8 days per month on site, managed flexibly

- Key tech skills: backend (Python, Node/TypeScript, Go or Java), cloud (GCP preferred), Docker, CI/CD, Terraform, data warehouses, integration of ML/AI services and LLM APIs

- Experience: at least 5 years as a software, backend or full stack engineer with real ownership of production systems

- Gross annual salary: €45,000 - €55,000 + annual bonus + welfare

Welyk is recruiting on behalf of Digital Pills, a consulting company focused exclusively on data, based in Turin with around 30 people. The company covers the entire data value chain: data strategy, data engineering, analytics engineering, BI and data science, with the goal of generating measurable impact for its clients. Over the last two years it has significantly strengthened its AI practice, both as an accelerator for existing data projects and with dedicated AI integration solutions. While remaining a compact company, it works with large international clients (including HelloFresh, Airalo and Last Minute) and Italian enterprise brands, and is pursuing an international expansion. It also dedicates a significant part of its activity to the non-profit sector, including pro bono projects for organisations such as AIRC and Save the Children.

Digital Pills recently received an investment from RIF-T, a vehicle controlled by Equiter and funded by Fondazione Compagnia di San Paolo, to support its scale-up phase and its transformation into an AI & Data company: a model that uses client projects as an incubator for proprietary accelerators and products. This is the company's first position fully dedicated to software engineering: today development is a side activity of the data engineers, and with this role it becomes a discipline in its own right.

• Take projects from requirements, even ambiguous ones, all the way to production and maintenance, choosing the architecture and making technical decisions autonomously, with no tech lead above you
• Design and build cloud backends and APIs for data, machine learning and AI workloads: services on top of data warehouses and pipelines, integrations with model and LLM APIs, job orchestration, everything that makes data science work usable outside a notebook
• Own the infrastructure autonomously (cloud setup, Infrastructure as Code, containers, CI/CD, environments, monitoring and cost control)
• Define the company's engineering standards (repository structure, code review, testing, deployment flows, security basics), write them down and get them adopted by the data engineers who also develop
• Turn solutions built for individual clients into reusable software (libraries, templates, services, internal products), working with the CTO and the team dedicated to proprietary products
• Collaborate with data engineers, data scientists and client managers: translate business requirements into technical solutions and realistic estimates, explaining trade-offs and limitations to non-technical stakeholders and clients

You like having full ownership of what you build, from the first line of architecture to monitoring in production, and you don't need anyone to tell you how to set up a project.

You know the difference between a prototype and a production-ready system, and how to get from one to the other.

You see yourself in a foundational role: you will be the first person dedicated to software engineering in the company, so the standards you write will become everyone's standards.

You explain your choices clearly to colleagues, stakeholders and clients, flagging risks early rather than after the deadline.

You enjoy spotting recurring patterns across different projects and turning them into something reusable, with the pragmatism to recognise when abstraction is not worth it.
