backend developer for high-load microservices

Freenow by Lyft operates a multi-mobility app that helps people move freely and cities thrive. The app provides access to taxis, private hire vehicles, carsharing, car rental, e-scooters, e-bikes, e-mopeds, and public transport across 9 European markets and more than 180 cities.

• Own features from ideation and development through testing, deployment, and monitoring;
• Design and develop systems based on product requirements or refactorings;
• Maintain and improve existing systems by identifying bottlenecks, performance issues, and inefficient resource usage across database access, caching, and messaging;
• Collaborate with team members in an Agile environment and contribute to agile ceremonies;
• Stay current with technology trends and bring best practices to daily work;
• Write high-quality unit, integration, and functional automated tests;
• Proactively identify and remediate security risks in owned components;
• Review and approve code for the team's services and suggest better approaches;
• Participate in the engineering chapter or craft community by sharing learnings, best practices, and feedback;
• Participate in incident response and hotfixes;
• Keep documentation for owned systems up to date.

• Strong interest in Kotlin or Java;
• Experience with Spring Boot or similar frameworks, automated tests, and CI/CD tools;
• Familiarity with monitoring tools such as Grafana, Datadog, or Kibana;
• Knowledge of microservices architecture;
• Understanding of scalable web application principles, RESTful APIs, transactions, and resiliency;
• Familiarity with messaging using Kafka or RabbitMQ;
• Creativity and willingness to think outside the box;
• Communicative, proactive, and collaborative approach;
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English;
• Nice to have: Experience with AWS or similar cloud service providers, familiarity with Agile methodologies such as Scrum or Kanban, hands-on experience integrating AI tools into engineering workflows.
