Backend Developer

Alpheya is a B2B WealthTech startup backed by BNY Mellon and Lunate, building a state-of-the-art wealth technology platform designed to power and grow wealth franchises for banks and financial institutions in the Middle East.

• Build the product and deploy it with the first enterprise customers;
• Own substantial parts of the core platform;
• Spend time inside customer environments to make the system useful in practice;
• Manage product runtime, including the lifecycle of an agent request through dispatch, execution, tool calls, and final reporting;
• Isolate and route work across organizations, environments, and execution planes;
• Maintain durable session behavior, including retries, timeouts, cancellation, recovery, and human approval;
• Build interfaces through which agents discover and call approved tools, including MCP servers and internal APIs;
• Manage identity, authorization, secrets, audit history, and policy enforcement around agent actions;
• Ensure operational visibility into agent actions, failures, and recovery methods;
• Package and manage upgrade paths for vendor-managed, customer-hosted, and hybrid deployments;
• Conduct technical discovery with customer engineering, platform, security, and operations teams;
• Select valuable, bounded, and realistic workflows to operate;
• Connect the platform to customer systems including Slack, GitHub, Kubernetes clusters, data systems, and internal tools;
• Design the access model for private networks and sensitive systems without routing unnecessary customer data through shared infrastructure;
• Take each workflow from a successful prototype to a supported production capability;
• Feed reusable requirements back into the core product instead of accumulating customer-specific forks;
• Evaluate task-specific correctness, completion, safety, and usefulness;
• Design context and tools for long-running engineering and operational tasks;
• Implement guardrails and approval points for actions with material impact;
• Investigate failures across models, orchestration, tools, permissions, networks, and infrastructure;
• Provide clear evidence of workflow performance compared to existing processes.

• Strong production software engineering background in backend, platform, infrastructure, or distributed systems;
• Direct experience building an LLM-powered product or agent that used tools and operated beyond a notebook or demo;
• Experience operating Kubernetes and cloud infrastructure, including debugging applications across networking, identity, permissions, and runtime boundaries;
• Ability to design APIs, asynchronous workflows, durable state, and failure recovery;
• Strong engineering judgment around security, reliability, and the blast radius of automated actions;
• Ability to work directly with customers, reduce ambiguous problems into concrete requirements, and implement solutions independently;
• Discipline to generalize what should become product while keeping customer-specific configuration isolated;
• Clear written and verbal communication with both engineers and decision-makers;
• Evidence of having independently shipped and operated meaningful production systems;
• Nice to have: Forward-deployed engineering experience, developer tools, coding agents, CI/CD systems, source-control integrations, infrastructure automation, multi-tenant SaaS, customer-hosted enterprise software, control-plane and execution-plane architectures, Kubernetes controllers, multi-cluster platforms, workflow engines, secure remote execution, MCP, enterprise identity, private networking, secrets management, authorization, audit systems, deployments in financial services or regulated industries, customer work across the Middle East, UK, Europe, or United States.
