Backend Developer

Wise is a global technology company that provides international money transfer and management services for individuals and businesses. The organization focuses on building a cross-border financial network to facilitate global payments with minimal fees and high efficiency.

• Build international joint accounts for globally distributed users;
• Expand kid accounts into additional markets;
• Create shared finance experiences that work across borders;
• Design scalable backend systems for high-growth consumer products;
• Develop features for shared spending, sending/receiving money, and account customization;
• Collaborate on customer discovery and product iteration;
• Scale infrastructure and improve reliability across multiple markets;
• Build greenfield financial products from concept to production;
• Contribute to product direction, challenge assumptions, and influence technical strategy.

• Experience building scalable distributed systems and delivering customer-facing products;
• Proficiency in backend programming languages such as Java, Kotlin, Python, or Go;
• Strong experience designing asynchronous, reliable, and scalable systems within microservice architectures;
• Ability to work in greenfield environments with evolving requirements;
• Strong product mindset with experience collaborating with cross-functional teams;
• Ability to contribute to architectural discussions and influence technical direction;
• Experience writing clean, maintainable, and well-tested code;
• Strong communication skills;
• Nice to have: Experience building greenfield products from scratch, experience working on international consumer products, experience with payments, financial systems, or compliance-heavy environments, experience building systems at global scale, familiarity with event-driven architecture and messaging systems such as Kafka, experience with customer-facing financial products, API-first development experience.

• Starting salary: £87,500 - £111,000 per year;
