• Own the overall system architecture, identifying component interactions, risks, and production challenges;
• Make day-to-day architectural decisions, defining structure and interface contracts;
• Translate research ideas into production-ready system designs, evaluating integration approaches and trade-offs;
• Identify architectural risks early to prevent long-term constraints or technical debt;
• Build prototypes to validate architectural assumptions, integration patterns, and scalability;
• Define clear boundaries between learned and non-learned system components;
• Guide technical decision-making across the team to ensure alignment with long-term architecture;
• Act as a technical sounding board for complex design and systems challenges.

• Experience operating at Staff or Principal Engineer level within teams building AI or ML-powered products;
• Track record of owning end-to-end system architecture for complex AI/ML systems under real-world constraints;
• Strong software engineering fundamentals with clean, maintainable code in Python or C#/.NET;
• Deep understanding of AI system design trade-offs, including latency, accuracy, interpretability, and modularity;
• Sufficient ML knowledge to engage in discussions regarding model behavior, evaluation, and deployment;
• Experience designing systems where reliability, explainability, observability, and auditability are core requirements;
• History of making high-impact technical decisions in ambiguous environments with complex trade-offs;
• Nice to have: Experience designing systems combining learned and rule-based components, familiarity with agentic system design, experience in regulated or high-stakes environments, familiarity with probabilistic representations of state and uncertainty quantification, experience with Databricks, Azure, AKS, or MLflow, interest in AI safety.
