platform engineer operational data platforms

HelloFresh is a food and consumer services company that uses data to forecast demand, optimize its supply chain, and personalize experiences. Its Data Platform makes operational data fast, reliable, governed, and available for analytics and engineering teams.

• Build and run the streaming and messaging platform using Kafka, Kafka Connect, Flink, and SQS;
• Own systems that move data in real time and at scale;
• Identify and act on opportunities to reduce platform cost and complexity;
• Own the reliability of critical data paths and improve their resilience, observability, and operational maturity;
• Build and maintain Terraform modules and tooling for self-service provisioning of operational data stores;
• Develop AI- and agent-based tooling for teams to operate and maintain their own data infrastructure;
• Raise data quality for operational data, including Kafka data quality checks;
• Collaborate with the Analytical Data team to ensure seamless data flows into the analytics platform;
• Participate in on-call rotations for owned systems;
• Invest in automation so the platform runs without a human in the loop.

• Hands-on experience as a data, software, or platform engineer building and operating production data infrastructure at scale;
• Strong software engineering fundamentals;
• Proficiency in a backend language such as Go, Java, Scala, or Python;
• Deep experience with event streaming and messaging systems, especially Kafka, in production;
• Understanding of relational and NoSQL databases and their trade-offs;
• Experience building infrastructure on AWS with Terraform, containers, and Kubernetes;
• Strong ownership mindset focused on reliability, efficiency, and developer experience;
• Comfort with on-call responsibilities and automating away toil;
• Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate across engineering teams;
• Nice to have: experience with Flink, stream processing, Kafka Connect, self-service developer platforms, and data lake architectures.
