Data Engineer - Scaling Avanza into Denmark & Beyond

We are currently operating as an internal startup at Avanza, building a brand-new platform to expand our business into Denmark. We combine startup speed with corporate strength, taking an AI-first approach to everything we do. We are now looking for a Data Engineer who is ready to step outside their comfort zone, interface seamlessly with software engineering teams, and help build the foundation for our next big journey.

You are a curious and proactive team player who loves solving complex problems together with others. You turn ideas into action and see learning from mistakes as a natural part of growth. You actively contribute to maintaining a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment within the team, where asking for help is just as natural as offering it.

• Solid experience with SQL, data modeling, and modern data tools such as BigQuery and dbt.
• Experience with streaming data and message queues (e.g., Kafka).
• Strong background in software engineering (e.g., Java) and API design in distributed environments—you have your primary focus in data, but can code application logic when needed.
• An interest in systems monitoring, observability, and analytics support.
• A humble, solution-oriented mindset where you prioritise team success and knowledge sharing.
• Professional working proficiency in English, Swedish is a bonus but not a must.
• Previous experience working with both user behavior data (e.g., clickstream, event tracking, product analytics) and core platform/financial data, with a track record of combining them to build holistic insights.
• Experience working with Python for advanced data automation or AI/ML integrations.
• A curiosity and passion for taking an AI-first approach to problem-solving and software/data development.
• Prior experience working in a regulated environment such as banking or fintech.

As a Data Engineer in our expansion team, you will help transform raw data into business value through robust pipelines and sustainable data models. We work according to data mesh principles, meaning you will both provide and consume data in a decentralised landscape. Our tech stack rests on BigQuery, Kafka for real-time streaming, and dbt for transformation logic.

You will become part of an autonomous team with a strong mandate to shape both architecture and ways of working. We value the craft of data engineering and apply core software development principles such as traceability and scalability—often through pair programming and close cross-functional collaboration.
