Data engineer in AI infrastructure

This is an opportunity to join a growing data function where you'll have genuine ownership across the full data lifecycle. Rather than focusing solely on pipeline engineering, you'll design solutions, work directly with business stakeholders, and help shape how data and AI-powered applications integrate into the wider product landscape. Based on the job specification and hiring brief, the role combines data engineering, solution design, cloud infrastructure, and application development responsibilities.

• Designing end-to-end data solutions in partnership with business stakeholders
• Building and maintaining scalable data pipelines, ETL processes, and cloud-based data platforms
• Developing and optimising data models to improve accessibility, performance, and quality
• Managing and enhancing Azure-based infrastructure and Databricks environments
• Integrating new data sources and connecting solutions into broader business applications
• Supporting the development of AI tooling and the underlying data infrastructure
• Building and maintaining business-critical applications and services
• Working with APIs and application integrations across the wider technology ecosystem
• Monitoring platform performance, availability, costs, and system health
• Providing technical guidance and mentoring to less experienced team members
• Collaborating with IT and technology teams to ensure scalable and sustainable solutions
• Taking ownership of solution design from initial concept through to deployment and support

• Strong commercial experience with Azure and Databricks
• Expertise in data engineering, ETL development, and data pipeline architecture
• Advanced SQL skills and strong data modelling capability
• Experience working with cloud infrastructure, platform engineering, or DevOps practices
• Ability to design solutions and translate business requirements into technical implementations
• Experience building applications, services, or API-driven integrations
• Strong understanding of data platform architecture and modern data ecosystems
• Comfortable working directly with business stakeholders without a dedicated Business Analyst layer
• Programming experience with Python and data-focused technologies
• Ability to balance hands-on delivery with strategic solution design
