Data Engineer

Mapbox is a real-time location platform providing tools to power navigation for people, packages, and vehicles globally. The organization delivers flexible, secure, and privacy-compliant mapping applications, data, SDKs, and APIs for location-aware businesses.

• Design, develop, and maintain algorithmic components for cloud applications;
• Implement scalable solutions using technologies such as Python, SQL, AWS, and Spark;
• Participate in the design and implementation of new features and improvements for cloud-based mapping products;
• Collaborate with cross-functional R&D teams to integrate analytics solutions into products;
• Work closely with senior engineers to improve system performance, reliability, and scalability;
• Contribute to code reviews, testing, and continuous improvement of development processes;
• Collaborate with product managers and engineering teams to deliver high-quality solutions aligned with customer and business needs.

• Good knowledge of at least one programming language (Python, Scala, or Java);
• Experience building data processing applications or pipelines on AWS or another cloud platform;
• Strong SQL skills and understanding of query execution and optimization principles;
• Good understanding of distributed computing concepts and experience with distributed data processing frameworks (e.g., Spark);
• Experience with workflow orchestration tools such as Airflow, Dagster, Prefect, or Luigi;
• Understanding of software engineering best practices, including version control, testing, and code reviews;
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail;
• Ability to communicate technical ideas effectively and collaborate within cross-functional teams;
• English (B1 required);
• Nice to have: Experience with data visualization libraries (e.g., Matplotlib, Plotly, or D3.js), Exposure to the mapping, navigation, or automotive industry, Basic understanding of machine learning techniques for geospatial or large-scale data analysis, Contributions to open-source projects or personal technical projects.
