backend developer in banking systems

CGI provides IT and business consulting services and is one of the largest firms of its kind in the world. The company is delivering a modernization and upgrade project for a mission-critical banking system.

• Perform a technical upgrade of the banking application;
• Analyze the existing application architecture, dependencies, and configurations to identify upgrade impacts;
• Refactor and optimize code to ensure compatibility with new versions;
• Collaborate with architects, QA, and DevOps teams on integration, testing, and deployment;
• Document upgrade steps, migration guidelines, and technical challenges and resolutions;
• Support knowledge transfer and guide client technical teams after the upgrade.

• Have 5+ years of Java development experience in enterprise environments;
• Have hands-on experience with Java EE / Jakarta EE, including Enterprise JavaBeans (EJB) and application servers such as JBoss/WildFly, WebLogic, or WebSphere;
• Have proven experience with application upgrade or migration projects in large-scale, mission-critical systems;
• Understand enterprise integration patterns, deployment pipelines, and performance tuning;
• Have strong problem-solving and debugging skills;
• Be flexible to work until 1:00 PM ET / 7:00 PM CET occasionally and as needed;
• Nice to have: experience in banking or financial services, familiarity with JPA specifications and persistence migration best practices, exposure to containerization and cloud platforms such as OpenShift, Kubernetes, AWS, or Azure, knowledge of CI/CD pipelines and modern DevOps practices, strong communication and consulting skills for client-facing interactions, experience with AI tools, knowledge of database performance and security, experience with website load and performance tools and related best practices, Java upgrade experience, experience decomposing monoliths into microservices, architecture skills.
