Backend developer for digital sheet music

Hal Leonard is the world’s largest print music publisher. Hal Leonard Connect enables music retailers and partners worldwide to sell Hal Leonard’s digital sheet music, audio, and media directly in their own stores. Its billing system serves as the source of truth for finance and analytics teams across Muse Group.

• Own the Hal Leonard Connect backend, including the Catalog and Purchase API, vendor dashboard and admin, SDKs, rate limits, monitoring and alerts, releases, and crons
• Own Hal Leonard Connect integrations with Hal Leonard AS400, Perfion, DAM, Keycloak, and Stripe
• Manage vendor asset access rules, multi-currency support, order processing, and data quality, including Oracle and HL Connect vendor discrepancies
• Own the Stripe-based billing system, including new Stripe accounts and products, alerts, finance and analyst data requests, and Metabase dashboards
• Serve as the technical contact for Hal Leonard staff and external vendors; handle onboarding, instructions, FAQs, documentation, Jira BS tickets, and reviews of partner-facing emails
• Represent engineering in HL Connect Sync, Sales HL Connect Europe / US, and Sublicensing meetings; turn sales requests into scoped roadmap items
• Build tooling and Claude skills that enable HL editors, sales, and finance teams to self-serve
• Review code and share knowledge across the backend horizontal (SMP, UG, sub-licensing)

• 5+ Years of backend development in PHP (Yii2) with MySQL in production
• Experience designing and operating public REST APIs for external developers, including versioning, SDKs, rate limits, documentation, and backward compatibility
• Experience integrating third-party and legacy systems, including ERP / PIM, SOAP / XML, file-based imports, and data reconciliation
• Experience with Stripe payments, including webhooks, invoices, payouts, multiple accounts, reconciliation, and money-safe code
• Experience operating services end-to-end with Docker / Kubernetes, crons, Grafana / Prometheus, Sentry, and incident ownership
• Strong SQL and analytics skills; able to build Metabase dashboards and answer finance and analyst questions with data
• Daily use of Claude Code, Cursor, or similar tools for development, tests, and documentation; experience building tooling or skills for non-engineers
• Written English B2+ for daily correspondence, explaining REST APIs to non-technical people, and writing documentation and FAQs
• Comfortable being the single owner of a product with external customers
