Chief accountant in retail

We are looking for an experienced Chief Accountant to build and lead the accounting function for H&M operations in Kazakhstan. Working with an internationally recognized fashion brand, you will establish accounting processes, develop a strong team, and support the business’s growth. We are seeking a proactive professional who combines strong technical expertise with a hands-on approach, takes ownership, and is motivated to build and improve the function.

• Take full ownership of the entity’s accounting, tax compliance, and statutory financial reporting in Kazakhstan.
• Define the accounting function’s structure and priorities, and build the team and processes needed to support the business.
• Set up accounting in 1C, establishing accounting policies, processes, and internal controls aligned with Kazakhstan legislation and Group requirements.
• Ensure timely month-end and year-end closing, preparation of accurate financial statements, and submission of tax, statistical, and Group financial reports.
• Oversee retail and inventory accounting, including store revenue, returns, discounts, imports, stock movements, stock takes, and write-offs.
• Coordinate external audits and interactions with tax authorities; identify and address accounting and tax risks.
• Collaborate with regional finance colleagues and operational teams to ensure reliable accounting data and continuously improve processes.

• A degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or a related field.
• At least 7 years of accounting experience, including 3 years in a leadership role as Chief Accountant, Deputy Chief Accountant, or Accounting Manager in Kazakhstan.
• Retail accounting experience is required, preferably within fashion, apparel, or footwear.
• In-depth knowledge of Kazakhstan accounting, tax, and relevant regulatory requirements, supported by practical experience in local accounting and reporting.
• Deep understanding of IFRS, with practical financial reporting experience.
• Strong proficiency in 1C and Excel.
• Experience managing and developing an accounting team.
• Professional proficiency in Russian and English at Intermediate level or above.
• Будет плюсом: Experience at a Big Four or another leading international audit firm would be an advantage; Experience establishing an accounting function or implementing accounting systems is highly desirable; Relevant professional certification, such as ACCA, DipIFR, or Professional Accountant of Kazakhstan, would be an advantage
