Security engineer for bot detection

Join a security engineering team focused on protecting high-traffic web and mobile products from automated abuse while maintaining a smooth experience for genuine customers. In this role, you’ll build and continuously improve detection and classification capabilities that distinguish AI-driven bots, other automation, legitimate bots, people, and unknown traffic—then partner across engineering, data, and product teams to enable proportionate actions (e.g., allow, monitor, challenge, restrict, block) based on measurable outcomes.

• Experience building or operating production software and/or security systems that handle real-world traffic at scale
• Strong coding ability in Python, Go, or Java (or a comparable language), including testing and maintaining production services
• Experience analyzing event/telemetry/traffic data and developing behavioral signals, detection logic, or classification rules
• Understanding of web, mobile, API, and/or edge architectures and common automated-traffic/abuse patterns
• Ability to evaluate and improve detection quality using metrics such as precision/recall, unknown traffic rates, and false-positive impact
• Clear communication skills and comfort collaborating across security, engineering, data, and product stakeholders
• Professional experience in security engineering, software engineering, data-driven detection, or traffic protection (degree helpful but not required if equivalent experience is demonstrated)
• Experience working with cross-functional teams in environments where reliability, measurement, and customer impact matter
• Ability to work on-site in Amsterdam, Netherlands (40 hours/week)
• Comfort operating detection/configuration as production software, including staged rollouts and rollback practices
• Strong focus on responsible decision-making that balances security effectiveness with user experience and fairness
