Tech Lead / Backend Developer (TypeScript/Node.js)

Utorg builds infrastructure for digital assets, including non-custodial wallets, crypto cards, embedded on/off-ramps, wallet architecture, and global stablecoin settlements. Its products serve over 2 million users across 130+ countries and power more than 2,100 platforms.

• Own backend architecture across two large-scale microservice platforms, from system design and API contracts to data flow and inter-service communication
• Lead complex integrations with payment providers, card issuers, blockchain networks, and third-party APIs; take responsibility for their reliability in production
• Drive performance and scalability by identifying bottlenecks, designing caching strategies, optimizing database queries, and supporting growing platform load
• Make architectural decisions, evaluate trade-offs, and influence engineering standards and technical direction
• Build and improve AI-powered processes that automate operational and development workflows
• Maintain and extend React-based admin dashboards used by internal teams, spending approximately 20% of the time on back-office frontends
• Own features end-to-end, from planning and architectural design through implementation, testing, production monitoring, and iterative improvement
• Collaborate with Product, QA, Frontend, Mobile, and cross-functional teams; produce technical documentation, participate in code reviews, and share knowledge
• Participate in a shared on-call rotation, roughly one week per month
• Drive complex integrations and make architectural and technical decisions independently, partially offloading the Tech Lead
• Deliver key results: ship initial production features within 30 days; independently drive a complex integration or major feature and propose improvements within 60 days; make architectural decisions within scope, influence technical direction, and participate in planning within 90 days

• At least 5 years of production backend development experience, primarily with TypeScript/Node.js
• At least 2 years of production experience with NestJS, including modules, providers, middleware, guards, interceptors, and microservice architecture with custom transports
• Production blockchain experience with on-chain transactions, multiple networks, and real user funds; understanding of HD wallets (BIP32/BIP39), smart contracts, ABI, ERC-20/SPL tokens, and account-based and UTXO models; experience with ethers.js, viem, and solana/web3.js
• Practical use of AI tools such as Claude, Copilot, or Cursor, and experience optimizing business or organizational processes with AI/LLMs
• Deep PostgreSQL expertise, including schema design, partial and GIN/GiST indexing, query optimization, zero-downtime migrations, and the database-per-service pattern
• Hands-on microservices experience, including RPC and pub/sub communication, message brokers, idempotency, eventual consistency, and saga/outbox patterns
• System design experience with service decomposition, API contracts, data flow architecture, and capacity planning; able to explain architectural decisions
• Production experience building and maintaining integrations with third-party APIs, payment systems, or similar external services; knowledge of retries, circuit breakers, and graceful degradation
• Performance engineering experience, including profiling, caching, load analysis, and bottleneck identification
• Strong testing discipline, including Jest unit tests, integration tests with real databases, and microservice testing
• Security-conscious approach to code that may handle real user funds
• Technical research skills, including evaluating trade-offs, testing hypotheses, and making data-driven architectural decisions
• Upper-Intermediate English proficiency and fluency in Russian
