The goal of this internship is to help design and develop a new generation of web portals for different types of users.

First, you will contribute to a unified portal for internal users and administrators. This platform will centralize and simplify access to the supervision, monitoring and administration tools for services running on a Hadoop cluster and deployed with our in-house solutions.

You may then contribute to a portal that visualizes usage and consumption data for external users.

Working at the interface between front-end and back-end, you will be involved at every stage of development, from interface design to integration with existing services. Supported by specialists in both fields, you will gain a complete view of a modern web application, while contributing to tools used in a scientific computing environment.

You will join our team of around fifteen software development professionals in Massy, where we develop and maintain our in-house scientific computing software and its complementary tools (HPC, Big Data, AI). We work with colleagues around the world, and our team thrives on open exchange, innovation, feedback and continuous learning.

Within the G2 & HPP Platform team, we bring together specialists in software development, systems, HPC and Big Data to design and maintain solutions that make our scientific processing platforms easier to operate, monitor and evolve. We work closely with other development teams, notably those in charge of interactive web applications and batch processing, to support them in our areas of expertise. We are also behind the Hadoop and Spark cluster tools used for quality control of data and processing results.

This internship will give you the chance to work on concrete challenges at the crossroads of web development, distributed systems and scientific computing. You will work in a stimulating setting, with access to AI tools and internally hosted models to support your development work.

• Discover the existing environment and understand the needs of users and administrators.
• Gather and analyze functional requirements, then define the scope and features of the portal.
• Contribute to the design of the solution, from the user interface to interactions with existing APIs and services.
• Iteratively develop the front-end and back-end components, and progressively integrate the various services and data sources.
• Test and validate the developed features, taking into account the constraints of the existing environment.
• Engage regularly with stakeholders to gather their feedback and evolve the solution accordingly.
• Document the work and regularly present progress to our team throughout the internship.

Required

• You are currently pursuing a Master’s-level degree (Bac+4/5) in computer science at an engineering school or university, and you want to put your skills into practice in an innovative technical environment
• You enjoy understanding complex environments, proposing new ideas and tackling technical challenges
• You have a solid foundation in web development, particularly JavaScript and TypeScript
• You understand the principles of designing and using APIs to access services and data
• You are comfortable in a Linux environment and have a working knowledge of containerization technologies such as Docker
• You are fluent in written and spoken English, to thrive in an international environment
• You are curious, motivated and you are a strong team player, with an analytical mind, autonomy and initiative
• You enjoy teamwork and know how to collaborate with people from varied profiles and areas of expertise

Prefered

• A first experience with React
• Knowledge of the Hadoop/Spark ecosystem or of technologies such as MongoDB and Kafka
