WhereTo is an AI-powered business travel platform within the Flight Centre family. Its machine learning technology recommends personalized travel options based on traveller preferences, company policies, and budgets, while providing real-time travel tracking, reporting, and cost analysis.

• Create high-quality user-focused software in a fast-moving domain team;
• Help define, implement, and reinforce architectural and implementation best practices;
• Assist the Team Lead with technical planning for team projects;
• Assist the Team Lead with communicating progress, roadblocks, concerns, and successes to engineering management;
• Organize and lead meetings with external stakeholders as needed;
• Provide technical guidance to more junior engineers;
• Assist the Team Lead with code reviews for the team;
• Help team members debug issues and solve complex tasks;
• Provide mentorship to junior engineers;
• Assist with the team onboarding process;
• Work with asynchronous I/O, Typed JavaScript, and horizontally scalable systems;
• Help cultivate a safe, inclusive, and accessible work environment;
• Help foster an inclusive and accessible team environment for all Flighties.

• More than 6+ years of experience in a software development role;
• Experience building and architecting high-quality software from scratch;
• Strong Node.js and JavaScript skills, including ES6 and Babel;
• Strong understanding of asynchronous I/O;
• Excellent software architecture skills and a passion for maintainable, organized code;
• Experience with AWS, EC3, S3, RDS, and CloudFront/CDNs;
• Expert knowledge of Linux and Ubuntu/Debian;
• Experience with CI platforms such as Jenkins, CircleCI, or Travis;
• Experience implementing REST-based Web Service APIs;
• Experience with MySQL/PostgreSQL or similar databases and understanding of their internal operation;
• Experience with algorithms and data structures;
• Experience designing and implementing highly horizontally scalable architecture;
• Nice to have: TypeScript and/or FlowType, BASH scripting, NoSQL databases such as MongoDB or Cassandra, memory cache systems such as Redis or Memcached, other systems programming languages such as Go, C/C++, or Rust, scripting languages such as Python, JVM-based languages such as Scala, Java, or Groovy, pure functional programming and/or functional programming libraries and concepts such as Haskell, Scala, F#, Ramda, or Lo-Dash FP.
