About the Role & TeamIDC's Internal Tools team builds and supports the internal applications that run core parts of thebusiness, from HR and employee data to product, contract, and client relationship management. As Java Team Lead, Internal Tools, you will manage a growing team of developers and set how the team plans, builds, and delivers, while staying close to the code. You will guide the modernization of a mature Java and Spring Boot portfolio onto cloud-native technology, and bring additional applications into the team without disrupting the business processes they support. It is a chance to shape both a team and its technology at a company where internal tooling directly supports how IDC serves its clients. What You’ll Do
- Lead and directly manage a team of five developers, with responsibility for feedback, performance, and career development, and partner with shared Quality Assurance (QA) engineers on testing and release quality.
- Own the team's delivery: set priorities with business stakeholders, plan the work, and coordinate dependencies with other IT teams (eg. DevOps, data, and security).
- Run the team's Scrum process, including daily stand-ups, backlog refinement, estimation, sprint planning, and retrospectives.
- Bring additional internal applications into the team's portfolio while keeping reliable support for the business processes they serve.
- Propose, evaluate, and decide on architecture and technical solutions with the team, and set engineering standards for code quality, testing, and code review.
- Drive modernization of the application portfolio, including migrating services from Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2) to Kubernetes, building new Angular front ends, and moving from GitFlow toward trunk-based development with feature flags.
- Stay hands-on in development, code review, and troubleshooting of Java and Spring Boot web applications and Representational State Transfer (REST) Application Programming Interfaces (APIs), using AI-assisted tools such as Claude Code while keeping developers accountable for the code they ship.
