Sr. Director, AI Agent, Context and Platform Engineering - Remote UK

Subject Matter Expertise: You will write research and directly engage with clients, applying your in-depth knowledge of software, agent, context and platform engineering technologies, technical capabilities of products/services, and deployment best practices. You will advise clients on architecting, implementing and operating:

- AI Agent engineering platforms, tools and technologies

- Platform and context engineering tools and technologies

- Developer self-service capabilities, developer experience and developer portals

- Observability to drive resilience and performance of AI, agent and software solutions

Our team is the technical backbone of Gartner’s AI, agent and software engineering research. We identify, influence, and share best practices, tools and technologies across the agent and software design, build and run lifecycle. This analyst role is on the Gartner for Software Engineering Technical Professionals team and will focus primarily on agent, context and platform engineering technical scopes.

Gartner analysts share our knowledge directly through client interactions, research, and conferences worldwide. Our growing team provides the opportunity to gain, shape and share expertise that will help architects, engineers, and other senior technical roles to successfully deliver agentic and software solutions across a wide range of clients, industries, and mediums.

• Develop thought leading research.
• Partner with your teammates, other analysts and research communities to advance technical research.
• Advise clients on strategic and tactical technology challenges.
• Deliver presentations at Gartner events, including Summits and Symposia.
• Attain industry leadership by responding to press inquiries and speaking at industry events.
• Support Gartner sales with client visits and consultation.
• Contribute to research and agenda planning.

Gartner is seeking a technical professional with practitioner level AI-agent, context and platform engineering expertise. Whilst hands-on technical knowledge and experience is critical, successful candidates will exhibit a love for continuous learning as well as a keen awareness of industry-shaping trends in software engineering.

• 12+ years of relevant experience in software engineering.
• Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience; Graduate degree preferred.
• Excellent writing and research skills, coupled with strong analytical skills.
• Excellent presentation skills, including small to large audiences (500+ people)
• Expertise in design, build and run of AI Agents via agentic harnesses, agent builder platforms or custom SDK based approaches.
• Expertise in implementing, running and governing platform engineering and context management solutions to deliver custom AI agent and software solutions.
• Expertise with technologies such as GitHub Enterprise, Azure DevOps, GitLab, Atlassian, Harness is a plus
• Hands on experience deploying and running AI-gateway or MCP capabilities is a plus
• Expertise in building and scaling resilient AI-ready/cloud-native applications including:
• Microservices architecture (MSA)
• Experience using Infrastructure-as-Code including firsthand experience with tools such as Terraform, AWS CDK/Cloud Formation, Chef, Puppet, Red Hat Ansible, Pulumi, or Crossplane.
• Experience in enabling developer self-service through developer portals
• Expertise with Backstage, OpsLevel, Cortex, Port, or similar as a further enhancement
• Application of AI to platform delivery or inclusion of AI capabilities as part of a developer platform
• Experience using observability and monitoring to improve the performance , reliability, resilience, and security of custom build software, ai and agentic applications.
