Backend developer PHP in healthcare

Care workers keep our healthcare system running and often receive the least appreciation for it. We want to change that. Value is the employee app for care facilities: a bonus system and benefits, messenger and newsfeed, pulse surveys and health services in one app. So care workers enjoy staying in their jobs. Our platform is growing steadily, so we’re looking for someone to drive our Laravel backend development forward and bring a good instinct for product development.

• Drive the ongoing development of our Laravel application and backend architecture
• Develop and extend our REST API for the iOS and Android apps
• Implement new features end to end, from the database and business logic through to the API
• Write clean, maintainable and well-tested code
• Continue to develop our database structures and interfaces in a considered way
• Develop authentication, permissions, background processes, notifications and other backend functionality
• Analyze, improve and continuously develop existing systems
• Write automated unit, feature and API tests and continue to improve our quality assurance
• Further develop our hosting and deployment infrastructure
• Improve and automate CI/CD processes
• Keep an eye on monitoring, logging and performance
• Optimize development, staging and production environments
• Consider security and scaling issues
• Evaluate new tools and technologies and integrate them into our stack where appropriate
• Bring your own ideas and have a real influence on how Value develops
• Work closely with the founders, mobile development and other team members
• Question existing solutions and develop new ones together with us
• Take your own product ideas from the initial thought through to the finished feature
• Help us find out what our users really need and how we can build good digital products from that
• Think not only about how we can implement something technically, but also why we are building it in the first place

• You have several years of professional experience with PHP and Laravel, ideally at least 3 years, and during that time have developed, operated and continuously improved production applications
• You have solid experience building and extending REST APIs
• You have very good knowledge of relational databases and sound database design
• Clean Code, SOLID, MVC and Dependency Injection are familiar to you
• You have experience with automated testing, especially unit and feature tests
• You enjoy contributing your own ideas, taking responsibility and helping shape technical decisions
• You use AI tools naturally in development, but can program just as well without AI and critically assess technical output
• You enjoy solving complex problems and turning them into simple, robust and intuitive solutions
• You enjoy working independently and are keen to make a real impact in an agile start-up
• We’re convinced that AI will sustainably change the way software is developed and products are designed. That’s why we’d like you to actively and naturally use AI tools in your daily work—for example, when developing, refactoring, debugging, testing, documenting or developing new ideas.
• It’s also important to us that you not only know how to get AI to write code, but also understand what that code does and why it works.
• You should be able to use modern AI-assisted development workflows and also be able to write, understand and debug code independently, and assess it critically.
• Будет плюсом: Experience with Vue.js, Inertia.js and Tailwind CSS is a plus; Experience with CI/CD, cloud infrastructure, server administration or monitoring is a plus
