backend developer for commerce infrastructure

Spotify is the world’s most popular audio streaming subscription service. Its Subscriptions Mission team builds systems and experiences that help acquire, convert, and retain subscribers, while the Commerce Platform team operates backend systems for global purchases, billing, invoicing, and payments.

• Design and build scalable backend systems for Spotify’s internal commerce platform;
• Develop and evolve services and data pipelines supporting invoicing, receipts, and payment flows;
• Work on complex, high-scale distributed systems handling millions of transactions daily;
• Collaborate with engineering, product, and data partners to deliver seamless user experiences;
• Contribute to architectural decisions shaping Spotify’s commerce ecosystem;
• Improve system performance, reliability, and observability across services;
• Participate in technical deep dives, code reviews, and knowledge-sharing within the engineering community.

• 5+ Years of experience building backend services with Python, Java, or similar languages;
• Experience designing and scaling systems on cloud platforms such as Google Cloud Platform or AWS;
• Experience with scalable database technologies such as Postgres or similar;
• High AI fluency and thoughtful use of modern tools, including LLMs, to improve workflows and problem-solving;
• Curiosity, sound judgment, and a bias toward action;
• Clear and confident communication, with the ability to lead technical discussions and share ideas;
• Collaborative approach and active contribution to a supportive, inclusive team environment;
• Experience modernizing or evolving legacy systems while maintaining stability;
• Exposure to commerce, payments, or financial systems.

• The role is based in London or Stockholm;
• Some in-person meetings are required, with flexibility to work from home;
