backend developer for analytical databases

The startup builds a purpose-built analytical database for temporal, multimodal data produced by robots and sensors. Its product runs at petabyte scale with early customers.

• Design and evolve distributed systems to scale with product usage by distributing data and requests across more nodes and services
• Build and scale the core of a columnar analytical database, including ingestion, indexing, storage, and query paths
• Identify and resolve bottlenecks and failure modes that emerge at scale
• Write production-grade Rust in a modern stack built around columnar data and object storage
• Own development from early design through production

• 3–5 Years of professional experience building and scaling backend systems
• A concrete example of re-architecting a system to handle a significant increase in load or data volume, such as distributing work across nodes
• Production Rust experience, or a strong systems background in C/C++ and genuine motivation to work in Rust
• Solid understanding of distributed systems trade-offs, including coordination, consistency, failure modes, retries, and scaling across nodes
• Comfortable with lower-level systems work and some familiarity with database internals
