AI platform engineer for enterprise teams

At Shakers we’re partnering with a leading global technology consultancy on a new project for a major North American retailer. They’re building an AI-driven engineering platform that changes how software gets made, from requirements and design to testing and production. We’re looking for a Senior AI Platform Engineer based in Portugal to join as a freelancer, full time.

• Design and build agentic development workflows, tools and automation across the SDLC
• Develop and integrate AI agents: orchestration, tool use, MCP servers and context engineering
• Implement evaluation frameworks, guardrails and quality checks so agent outputs are reliable
• Build and optimize CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure automation and developer tooling
• Connect AI workflows with enterprise systems such as Jira, source control and CI platforms
• Improve engineering efficiency, reliability and developer experience

• 8+ years in software engineering, with senior or lead responsibilities
• Proven experience building and deploying AI agents in production (orchestration, MCP, evals). PoCs alone won’t be enough
• Strong background in Platform Engineering, DevOps and CI/CD
• Python and TypeScript
• Cloud infrastructure (GCP or equivalent) and Infrastructure as Code (Terraform or similar)
• Experience building internal developer platforms, CLIs or workflow engines
• Daily hands-on use of agentic coding tools
• English C1
• Living in Portugal

• You’ll work on one of the most interesting problems in software right now: making AI agents genuinely useful for engineering teams at enterprise scale
• Hybrid with just 1 day a week on-site, in Lisbon, Braga or Coimbra
• Freelance, full time, with a high-autonomy role where you own the technical decisions
