• Set design strategy across multiple product areas and platform connections while shaping company direction with executive leadership;
• Resolve conflicts between strategic directions and help Dow Jones adapt to market changes through design leadership;
• Present to and influence executive leadership on the competitive advantages of thoughtfully designed products and platforms;
• Synthesize competing executive concepts into unified direction and advise leaders on portfolio-wide decisions;
• Lead company-wide strategic projects across products, platforms, and business units;
• Partner with executives to remove organizational barriers and reshape product development at scale;
• Identify company-wide opportunities and patterns that inform multi-year strategic planning;
• Anticipate industry transformations and position Dow Jones ahead of change;
• Establish design practices, methods, frameworks, and tools that improve design practice company-wide;
• Share design approaches externally through speaking engagements and publications;
• Solve highly ambiguous, precedent-setting challenges by developing new organizational approaches;
• Shape platform evolution across multiple product areas and define how platform designs create competitive advantage and user value;
• Develop senior design talent, mentor Principal-level designers, and advise executives on design leadership;
• Create talent pipelines and foster inclusion in high-stakes decisions;
• Set and embody quality standards across products, markets, and platforms worldwide;
• Build external partnerships with agencies, vendors, and academic institutions;
• Establish Dow Jones’s reputation as a design leader through industry presence.

• 10+ Years of product design experience, including significant experience setting strategy for complex, multi-product organizations;
• Portfolio demonstrating strategic impact at scale, company-level influence, conflict resolution, and measurable multi-year business value;
• Proven experience working with C-level executives, presenting to boards, and influencing company-wide decisions through design leadership;
• Experience setting design strategy for multiple product areas simultaneously and resolving strategic conflicts;
• Excellence in platform thinking and experience establishing patterns that become organizational standards;
• Demonstrated thought leadership through major conference speaking, published articles, or industry recognition;
• Track record of solving unprecedented challenges and creating new methods or frameworks;
• Strong business acumen, including the ability to connect design decisions to multi-year business outcomes, metrics, market dynamics, and competitive positioning;
• Experience building design capabilities at scale, including operations, governance models, and talent development programs;
• Ability to navigate organizational complexity across business units, geographies, and cultures;
• Deep expertise across design disciplines, from visual design to systems thinking, with the ability to coach others and set excellence standards;
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in Design, HCI, or a related field; an advanced degree is strongly preferred;
• Nice to have: experience in media, publishing, or financial services at enterprise scale, design transformation or digital modernization initiatives, M&A integration or product consolidation through design, establishing design organizations in global companies, published books or research, significant design thought leadership, board or advisory experience for design-forward companies, university-level or executive education teaching experience, patents or innovations in design methods or tools, strategic experience with emerging technologies such as AI/ML, international business experience, cross-cultural design leadership.
