Unity EMS/PPC is Power Factors’ plant control platform for PV, BESS, wind and hybrid plants. It combines a site-level Controller that regulates active and reactive power at the point of interconnection, a layer for centralized control, scheduling, optimization and market participation, and a platform for fleet monitoring, analytics and diagnostics.
You will be one of the product managers covering control and grid integration, reporting to the Head of EMS. This role will focus more on PV and BESS plant control, grid integration, grid compliance, dynamic models, certification, validation and automated testing, diagnostics and AI tools, and delivery/customers enablement.
PART A — TECHNICAL SCOPE
1. PPC Control
You own the product definition and roadmap for the grid-facing control functions of the Unity PPC for PV, BESS and PV+BESS hybrid plants, including:
- Active power — setpoint tracking and curtailment at the POI, ramp-rate control, and power limitation
- Frequency response — FSM, LFSM-O/U, droop, fast frequency response and synthetic inertia
- Voltage and reactive power — voltage control, Q setpoint, power factor, Q(U) and Q(P) characteristics, and reactive support at night / STATCOM mode
- Performance at the POI — accuracy, response and settling times, closed-loop tuning and stability across grid strength conditions
- Multi-vendor coordination — inverter and PCS dispatch, BESS state-of-charge management, and PV+BESS hybrid coordination
- Grid-forming BESS — grid-forming capabilities
- Interfaces — TSO/DSO and SCADA interfaces (IEC 61850, IEC 60870-5-104, DNP3, Modbus TCP), EMS-to-PPC setpoint handling, and cybersecurity requirements (IEC 62443)
2. Grid Compliance & Certification
- Grid code expertise — interpret and track requirements across markets, including ENTSO-E NC RfG (and its revision), EN 50549, VDE-AR-N 4110/4120, GB Grid Code and G99, Poland and Iberia, IEEE 2800, NERC and ERCOT, and AEMO GPS / NER S5.2.5.
- Compliance status register — own the global view of which grid codes the product meets, where the gaps are and how they are prioritised.
- Certification strategy and process — decide which certifications to pursue and when; oversee timelines, certification bodies and TSO submissions.
- Compliance testing — define product-level compliance test procedures and witness key tests on site and in the lab.
- Technical authority — be the product voice on grid compliance for customers, EPCs and TSOs.
3. Dynamic Models
- Model library ownership — the certified PowerFactory, PSSE, PSCAD and PSLF model library as a product asset, with a versioning policy that keeps models aligned with controller firmware.
- Model quality — set the methodology and accuracy standard, including validation of models against HIL results and field measurements; the models team develop them.
- TSO model processes — lead product-level model submissions and responses to TSO review comments.
4. Validated Performance
- Validation strategy — evolve the test methodology, test suite and evidence format that TSOs, customers and lenders require.
- Automated testing — own the product roadmap for automated HIL and regression testing of PPC functions across grid codes.
- Hands-on lab access — work directly in the HIL/RTDS environment with the validation engineers to explore behaviour, reproduce issues and test prototypes.
- Evidence as a product — package test reports and validation certificates for TSO submissions, RFPs and lender due diligence.
5. Delivery Enablement & Grid Integration Automation
- Grid Integration Automation — product tooling that makes site-specific model and settings configuration fast and repeatable.
- Commissioning and testing tooling — product capabilities that help project teams scale, in terms of configuration, commissioning and testing of delivered functionality.
- Field feedback loop — turn commissioning findings and field behaviour into product improvements.
6. Diagnostics & AI Tools
- Control diagnostics — define and prototype diagnostics in the EMS user interfaces: POI performance monitoring, compliance-status views, root-cause analysis and degradation detection.
- Operational tools such as commissioning support, parameter tuning, anomaly detection and grid-code analysis.
7. Field & Grid Events
- Grid event investigations — join the analysis of complex grid events, disturbances and fault ride-through behaviour, and turn findings into product and validation changes.
- Site and TSO presence — travel for key lighthouse projects compliance tests, in strategic TSO meetings and customer workshops, as needed within the product scope - limited.
PART B — PRODUCT & STRATEGY
8. Strategy, Roadmap & Product Definition
- Vision and roadmap — set the strategy and roadmap for your area, aligned with the overall EMS/PPC strategy; prioritize across compliance gaps, customer demand, competition and innovation.
- Business cases — size opportunities, estimate value and cost, and decide what becomes product capability and in what order.
- Requirements — translate grid codes, customer needs and research into requirements, user stories and acceptance criteria; refine the backlog with engineering.
- Reusable capabilities — turn single customer or TSO requirements into reusable capabilities such as grid code abstraction and parameterised models.
- Product metrics — track time-to-certification, POI performance, validation coverage, configuration effort per site, and win rate where compliance is decisive.
9. Market & Customer Insight
Competitive analysis. You maintain an engineering-grade view of the PV and BESS plant control market: which vendors are certified where, what validation evidence they show, how their control and diagnostics compare, and how they position against us in bids. You turn this into positioning, battle cards and roadmap input, and run win/loss analysis where compliance or validation were decisive.
Customer discovery and engagement. You work with asset owners, EPCs, lenders and partners to understand new requirements and opportunities. You turn each engagement into a structured requirement or opportunity assessment, test whether it generalises, and run interviews, pilots and design-partner programmes for new capabilities.
Domain and regulatory research. You engage with TSOs, industry working groups and standards bodies to anticipate requirements 12–24 months ahead, and research topics such as system strength, new ancillary services and AI in operational technology, turning them into briefings and product proposals.
10. Go-to-Market & Partnerships
- Enablement and opportunity support — positioning, technical collateral and battle cards; join key RFPs, customer workshops and lender due diligence as the product expert.
- Launches and partnerships — plan launches of new capabilities, and shape relationships with inverter and PCS OEMs, HIL/RTDS and certification bodies.
