Data engineer in storage and messaging

In 2018, Bitvavo launched the first version of its digital assets trading platform, to bridge the gap between traditional currencies and digital assets. By offering transparent fees, a wide range of assets and an easy to use platform, Bitvavo is making the currency of the future accessible for everyone. In two years' time, Bitvavo has established itself as the market leader in the Netherlands and one of the largest in Europe, with over one million users exchanging tens of billions of digital assets a year. We are looking for a talented Senior Data Platform Engineer to join the Storage and Messaging team in our established Platform Engineering team.

• Build a self-service platform that empowers teams to build at scale across diverse database and messaging technologies, enabling the seamless and reliable development of application and data products.
• Continuously evolve our platform to support new data models and use cases, including structured and semi-structured data models, stream processing, and data governance at scale .
• Build and maintain a secure, scalable, and compliant data infrastructure using Infrastructure as Code and automation.
• Enable data ingestion, processing, and consumption at scale. All are offered entirely as self-service.
• Mentor teammates by sharing technical knowledge, providing constructive feedback, and driving engineering excellence.

• Experience with one or more programming languages. We primarily use Golang and Python, but we value problem-solving ability over syntax familiarity.
• Strong understanding of platform engineering principles and distributed data systems.
• Experience with SQL and No-SQL databases.
• Experience with distributed messaging systems such as Kafka, including cluster operations, topic/partition design, consumer group tuning, schema registry, and stream processing with Flink
• Fluency in using infrastructure as code tools (like Terraform) and container orchestration platforms (like Kubernetes) in a cloud-first environment.
• Exceptional communication skills. We expect engineers to take ownership of their work end-to-end and communicate directly with stakeholders.
• High sense of ownership, accountability and engineering mindset. We value engineers who take initiative and advocate for the long-term health of our data ecosystem.
