backend engineer for Camunda Hub

Camunda provides an enterprise platform for agentic orchestration, enabling organizations to coordinate AI agents, people, and systems across complex business processes. Its platform includes governance, auditability, and human oversight, helping enterprises move AI from pilots to production safely and at scale.

• Take over and improve Hub’s fleet propagation mechanism for access, secrets, tenants, licences, and custom roles
• Write design documents for foundational changes, get them reviewed by dependent teams, and deliver tested code
• Design Hub’s behavior for offline clusters, partial failures, Hub outages, and clusters being adopted or detached
• Build the path from clusters back to Hub, including deployment inventory, health, audit records, and licence status
• Design Hub’s first event and webhook mechanism so administrators and agents can react to changes instead of polling
• Join the pod’s rotations and Hub on-call
• Support other builders’ backend work through reviews, guidelines, and contract tests

• Experience building and running production backend systems that other teams or customers depend on
• Ability to turn an unowned problem into a design, plan, and shipped code
• Product judgment for technical users, including discussing API needs and making trade-offs on their behalf
• Clear, concise writing for asynchronous reviews and decisions in a remote team
• Care for system behavior during failures, not only the happy path
• Experience designing and shipping a control plane or similar system that pushes desired state to many targets
• Knowledge of outbox or event-log patterns, idempotent apply, versioning, retries, and drift reconciliation
• Senior backend engineering experience in Java, including API design, relational data models, and multi-tenant SaaS services
• Hands-on experience with Helm and Kubernetes for self-managed installations
• Software architecture and failure analysis experience, including partial failure, blast radius, and consistency trade-offs
• Experience debugging production incidents in a distributed system and readiness for on-call
• Experience shaping an API or platform as a product and writing design documents other teams can build on
• Ability to gain agreement across teams without formal authority
• Ability to build AI-first from written specifications and carefully review AI-generated output

• Annual Total Target Cash (base salary + 100% variable target, where applicable): United States: $143,800.00 to $231,900.00; United Kingdom: £90,300.00 to £148,500.00; Singapore: S$178,600.00 to S$267,900.00; Canada: C$152,700.00 to C$251,200
• Final offers depend on skills, experience, and location; hiring typically takes place in the first half of the range
