AI Builder - Software Engineer

Builder Experience (BX) is a new team at Earnix with one goal: make our Product and Engineering organization fully AI-native. Earnix is the first AI company purpose-built for insurance decisioning, and we want the way we build to be as advanced as what we build.

BX does three things:

- Builds the paved path, the shared AI infrastructure our teams build on: agent harness, orchestration, model access, integrations with our internal systems, evaluation and observability. Product and engineering teams build their own agents and skills on top of it.

- Sets the standards for how we build with AI, from writing a spec to merging a pull request.

- Teaches and multiplies: workshops, office hours, pairing with teams, and a network of champions in every engineering team and product group.

The team is small on purpose. Each person on it changes how dozens of others work.

Knowledge matters, but it changes every few months. What we hire for is how you work:

- You learn fast and never stop. You try new tools and models the week they ship, and you can show something you learned and used in the last month.

- You are a multiplier. You measure your success by what other people can do because of your work, not by your own output.

- You are independent. You find the problem, own it end to end, and do not wait for a ticket or for permission.

- You work hard and you finish. You care about the last 10%: the documentation, the edge case, the follow-up with the team that is stuck.

- You want to make a difference. You are here to change how a whole organization works, and that energy shows.

- You are honest about what works. You test tools critically, say when something does not deliver, and teach people to verify AI output, not just generate it.

• Build the paved path: agent harness and orchestration, model access layer, MCP servers that connect agents to our internal systems (source control, Jira, Confluence, CI, observability), evaluation, observability and cost tracking.
• Set the standards: golden paths, AI-readable context for our repositories, and rules for AI-generated code, with extra care for high-risk paths such as pricing and customer data. Where possible, turn standards into automated checks.
• Multiply others: run workshops and office hours, pair with engineering and product teams on real work, and coach the champions who carry the practice into each team.
• Stay ahead: about one day a week is protected for learning. Try new tools and models, run short pilots, and recommend what we adopt and what we drop.
• Measure what matters: help track adoption, delivery speed, quality and cost, and use the data to decide what to build next.
• Mentor the BX students: guide their work, review it, and help them grow.

You will build the shared AI foundation our teams build their own AI work on, and you will make sure they actually use it well. Half platform engineer, half teacher, fully hands-on.

• 6+ years of software engineering, with strong backend or platform experience and production systems behind you.
• Daily, hands-on use of coding agents (Claude Code, Cursor or similar) well beyond autocomplete. You can show agent workflows, skills or tools you built.
• Experience building tools, platforms or services that other engineers depend on.
• Solid knowledge of APIs, integrations, CI/CD and cloud environments.
• Security-minded habits: secrets handling, least privilege, auditability.
• Clear communication in English, written and spoken. You can explain a technical idea to a skeptical senior engineer and to a product manager.
• Built MCP servers, agent frameworks or LLM evaluation pipelines.
• Experience in a platform, DevEx or developer productivity team.
• A record of teaching: talks, internal workshops, blog posts or open-source work.
• Background in insurance, fintech or other regulated domains.
