backend developer for restaurant technology

• Design, develop, and maintain backend systems, services, and APIs for integrated ordering, payment, and workflow management solutions
• Contribute to system architecture and technical design, considering system behavior, dependencies, data flows, and integrations
• Own complex features and technical initiatives from requirements and design through implementation, testing, deployment, production validation, and post-release follow-up
• Identify technical problems, risks, dependencies, and improvement opportunities proactively
• Provide technical guidance to developers on architecture, implementation, debugging, performance, and engineering practices
• Advise the Engineering Manager on technical decisions, planning, risk assessment, prioritization, complexity, and dependencies
• Mentor developers, share technical knowledge, and review implementation approaches
• Conduct code reviews covering correctness, architecture, maintainability, performance, security, scalability, and long-term impact
• Establish and improve engineering standards, coding practices, development processes, and technical guidelines
• Use AI-assisted engineering tools to improve development speed, code quality, investigation, debugging, testing, documentation, and productivity
• Validate AI-generated code, designs, assumptions, and recommendations before production use; evaluate AI-assisted approaches and identify opportunities to improve team efficiency and software quality
• Help developers use AI-assisted tools and workflows effectively and responsibly
• Maintain sufficient knowledge of the codebase and surrounding systems to identify incorrect, incomplete, or suboptimal AI-generated solutions
• Collaborate with Product, Quality Engineering, Frontend, Architecture, DevOps, and other engineering teams on feature delivery
• Work with Quality Engineering throughout development to ensure testability, appropriate coverage, and early identification of quality risks
• Write and maintain unit, integration, and automated tests
• Design and implement reliable, backward-compatible, performant, scalable, and maintainable APIs and integrations
• Identify performance bottlenecks and resource utilization issues and implement improvements
• Investigate and resolve complex production issues, perform root cause analysis, and implement corrective and preventive actions
• Use monitoring, logging, metrics, and observability tools to understand system behavior and validate delivered changes
• Consider production behavior, performance, reliability, and operational impact in implementation and design decisions
• Provide technical estimates and communicate assumptions, dependencies, risks, and uncertainties
• Prioritize work with the Engineering Manager while independently managing technical execution and dependencies
• Communicate risks, blockers, and development problems promptly, with potential solutions or recommendations
• Take responsibility for solution quality, maintainability, and technical correctness
• Use Git and established development workflows in line with team and company practices
• Improve technical knowledge and evaluate technologies, tools, and practices that can improve development efficiency, system quality, and team effectiveness
• Reduce technical debt and identify areas for modernization, simplification, or architectural improvement
• Balance delivery speed with long-term maintainability and avoid unnecessary complexity and costly short-term solutions

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience
• Extensive professional backend development experience and a track record of independently delivering complex production systems
• Strong knowledge of PHP and modern PHP web frameworks and/or Go (Golang), including backend application and service development
• Strong knowledge of relational databases, particularly MySQL, including data modeling, query optimization, and performance
• Strong experience designing and maintaining APIs and integrations
• Deep understanding of software architecture, design patterns, maintainability, scalability, and performance
• Strong understanding of distributed systems, service integrations, asynchronous processing, and failure scenarios
• Strong understanding of unit, integration, and automated testing
• Strong understanding of production systems, observability, logging, monitoring, troubleshooting, and root cause analysis
• Strong experience with Git, Linux environments, and modern CI/CD practices
• Experience in Agile and continuous delivery environments with frequent releases and short development cycles
• Ability to independently solve complex technical problems and make sound engineering decisions with limited supervision
• Ability to own complex features and technical initiatives end to end
• Practical experience using AI-assisted software engineering tools as a significant part of the development workflow
• Strong understanding of the capabilities and limitations of AI-assisted development, with the technical depth to review, validate, and correct AI-generated code and solutions
• Ability to use AI to accelerate development, investigation, testing, documentation, and problem solving without compromising engineering quality
• Strong ability to proactively identify technical risks and improvement opportunities
• Ability to help other engineers adopt effective AI-assisted development practices
• Strong code review and technical mentoring skills
• Ability to serve as a technical reference for developers and support the Engineering Manager with technical recommendations and decisions
• Strong communication and collaboration skills across Engineering, Product, Quality Engineering, Architecture, and DevOps
