backend developer for GenAI applications

ABN AMRO is one of the Netherlands' largest banks, serving millions of customers. Its AI team builds GenAI applications for banking, including voice agents for contact center calls and AI lending assistants that support credit proposal writing.

• Design and implement backend services and Azure cloud infrastructure for GenAI use cases, including Voice AI, RAG pipelines, and agentic workflows
• Build and maintain secure, scalable cloud infrastructure and CI/CD pipelines for production systems
• Ensure reliability and performance through monitoring, logging, observability, and optimization
• Collaborate with AI engineers to integrate GenAI capabilities into production-ready systems
• Partner with business stakeholders to translate requirements into scalable backend and infrastructure solutions
• Own the full system lifecycle: design, build, deploy, operate, and continuously improve production systems
• Contribute to engineering excellence through code reviews, knowledge sharing, and backend/infrastructure best practices
• Design, build, and operate backend services and infrastructure that power production GenAI applications
• Ensure AI solutions are secure, scalable, and reliable in a banking environment
• Work with multidisciplinary teams to translate use cases into technical AI solutions and architectures
• Build APIs, integrate LLMs into backend systems, and deploy resilient infrastructure for real-world usage at scale
• Design the infrastructure and backend of multiple projects and support them when changes are needed

• Proven experience building and deploying Python backend services or platforms in production
• Experience with cloud infrastructure; Azure is required
• Experience designing or maintaining APIs and distributed systems for real-world usage
• Experience implementing CI/CD pipelines and automated deployments
• Experience shipping systems that people rely on, and clearly explaining what worked, what did not, and why
• Take ownership from initial cloud architecture design through production deployment and ongoing operations
• Move quickly from idea to working system without heavy direction
• Balance speed, reliability, scalability, and maintainability
• Enjoy mentoring junior colleagues and supporting their systems design and infrastructure knowledge
• Communicate technical decisions clearly to engineers and non-technical stakeholders
• Be interested in GenAI and understand how it fits into production systems
• Have built something outside the day job, such as tooling, infrastructure, or a side project, demonstrating initiative and craftsmanship

• Gross monthly salary is based on a 36-hour work week and includes holiday allowance and a flexible benefit budget; salary scales are available in the applicable Collective Labour Agreement (CLA)
