backend developer for defence AI

Helsing is a defence AI company focused on protecting democracies and enabling open societies to make sovereign decisions while maintaining their ethical standards. It develops AI and software for defence, addressing complex technical challenges and ethical implications.

• Integrate state-of-the-art software into complex systems and deliver novel capabilities end to end;
• Collaborate with customer avionics engineers to understand aircraft mission control data structures and APIs;
• Implement adapters to integrate unfamiliar databases, APIs, and network protocols with Helsing’s cloud infrastructure;
• Work closely with partners and customers to evolve, improve, and operate Helsing software;
• Discover and formalise customer requirements in collaboration with product teams;
• Identify bugs and ship the latest features directly to users;
• Coordinate customers, partners, and Helsing engineers to demonstrate software and AI capabilities in simulations or with real systems.

• Degree in computer science, software engineering, electrical engineering, or another relevant field;
• Broad understanding of computer systems and creative problem-solving skills;
• Comfortable with scripting languages such as Bash or Python;
• Software engineering experience in C++, Java, Rust, or similar;
• Able to navigate and configure Linux systems;
• Understanding of network stacks and database systems;
• For Germany, business-level or fluent German is required;
• Nice to have: experience with Rust and Python, container-based, cloud-native, and edge application architectures, maintaining and operating production systems using Prometheus, Grafana, ELK, or similar, SQL, NoSQL, and streaming database systems, production ML systems, professional experience in a defence context.
